Intro to Figure Skating

The Intro to Figure Skating program is a beginner-level class designed to introduce skaters, ages 5-18, to the foundational skills of figure skating in a supportive and structured environment.

Practices will take place at the Lakes Ice Arena.

Practices

Practice Groups by Skill Level (*see our leveling chart to know where your skater belongs! Reach out with any questions!)

Sundays –

Tots-Pre-Alpha

  • Time: 5:15 – 5:45 PM

Gamma-Freestyle Levels

  • Time: 5:50 – 6:45 PM


Wednesdays –

Alpha-Beta

  • Time: 6:15 – 6:45 PM


Cost

The cost for the Intro to Figure Skating program for the 2026-2027 Season is $75. (Price includes an LAFS T-shirt!!)


*As the program develops, we anticipate costs to increase to support program needs.

Do I need my own skates?

The Lakes Ice Arena has a limited supply of figure skates available to use during practices. Having your own figure skates is recommended.


What other equipment do I need?

No other physical equipment is needed, but please dress warmly and bring finger gloves.


When will the program start and end?

The Intro to Figure Skating program will run from mid-October to the beginning of March.


What is the cost?

The cost of the Intro to Figure Skating Program is $75.


Will there be a recital?

Our program is growing and so are our skills; time to show them off! In the 2026 Winter Season, LAFS Skaters joined with figure skaters from Luverne, MN. We anticipate a recital similar to last year with more involvement from LAFS. *Tentative show date: March 12th.


Do I have to fundraise?

No fundraising requirements.


Will there be a clothing/ gear order?

Yes! More information regarding an order will come closer to the season start.


What will be taught during the program?

The Intro to Figure Skating program is designed to teach skaters entry-level jumps, spins, and footwork.

Gamma-Freestyle

The Gamma-Freestyle session is crafted for skaters who have intermediate to advanced skating skills/ ability. Skaters in this level can do more advanced/ difficult spins, jumps, and edge work.

The Alpha-Beta class is intended for skaters who are emerging in their skills and confidence on the ice. Skaters in this level can do basic spins, jumps, and edge work.
